Enter the date your residence was granted and see every date that matters: the window to convert to permanent residence, how long you can stay abroad, the card renewal and the earliest citizenship application.
Dates are estimates from the general rules. Your card, resolution and any extension granted to you take precedence.
Temporary residence lasts two years
It is granted for up to two years under Ley Nº 6984/2022.
The conversion window is the last three months
You file for permanent residence in the 90 days before temporary residence expires. Since July 2026 the file must prove verifiable income (Resolución DNM Nº 407/2026).
A year abroad breaks the chain
More than a year away in one stretch during temporary residence leads to an extension instead of permanent residence.
Three years abroad can cost permanent residence
An unjustified absence of more than three years can lead to cancellation. Any entry resets the count.
Citizenship comes three years after permanent residence
With continuous residence, an exam and the court’s approval.
The card lasts ten years
The permanent residence card and cédula are renewable.
